Internship with Nonprofit Working to Get Big Money Out of Politics

DESCRIPTION

Citizens Take Action is focused on reducing the influence of big money in politics. We support reforms at the local level such as campaign contribution limits and publicly financed elections. Currently, we are focused on creating report cards that grade cities on the strength of their campaign finance laws and the transparency of campaign finance data, and on encouarging local elected officials in California to pass reforms in their cities. We are looking for an intern with strong research skills, communication skills, and an interest in the subject matter, to help us in that effort.

Intern will learn and be exposed to:

• The current landscape of campaign finance laws in cities throughout California.
• Where to find information on campaign contributions and expenditures.
• How to understand the flow of money into local elections.
• How to build support for reforms at the local level.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct research on campaign finance laws in cities throughout California.
• Assist in analyzing information about campaing contributions and expenditures.
• Attempt to build support for campaign finance reform at the local level by connecting with local activists and political groups.

Qualifications:

• Must be passionate about the cause, hard-working, organized, and have excellent communication skills;
• Strong research skills.
• Must be detail-oriented.

Schedule:

• Approximately 2 days per week for 6 hours per day- a total of 12 hours per week.
• Negotiable start and end date
• At least one day per week in a physical office in Orange, CA.

This position will come with a significant amount of responsibility and will be a great learning opportunity for someone who is interested in getting big money out of politics, building their advocacy skills, and wants to learn more about local campaign finance laws.
