    Location: Chicago, IL

    Remote Work Eligibility: Yes; Regular Remote Work (onsite event support at conference the week of April 27-May 1 in Chicago, IL)

    Duration: 18 Weeks - Expected January 20 - May 22, 2026

    Schedule and Compensation: 20-30 hours per week;

    40 hours per week (April 20-May 8, 2025); $17.95 per hour

    General Description:

    The League of Conservation Voters, Inc. (“LCV”), a non-profit organization, builds political power to protect people and the planet. We envision a world in which tackling the climate crisis, confronting environmental injustice, and strengthening our democracy lead to cleaner and healthier communities, good, well-paying jobs, and a more just, equitable, and sustainable planet for all.

    For more than 50 years, LCV has fought for solutions to the interconnected threats our environment and democracy face. We do so by working with and holding elected officials accountable, mobilizing, organizing, and building grassroots power in communities, electing candidates who share our values, and partnering with and supporting our 30+ state affiliates across the country.

    LCV is seeking a State Capacity Building Intern who will support the State Capacity Building Director in working with LCV and our 30+ state affiliates, collectively referred to as the Conservation Voters Movement (CVM), to plan and implement our network-wide annual conference and further develop our CVM communication platforms. They will provide valuable support to state affiliates and the conference planning team, offering timely assistance to conference attendees, event coordination and communication, administrative support, and collecting resources to share on our network-wide platforms. They will provide onsite event support at the conference, the week of April 27-May 1, held in Chicago, IL. The State Capacity Building Intern will also play a supporting role in co-creating and facilitating online and in-person gatherings as part of the conference program.

    The State Capacity Building Intern will join a Spring 2026 internship cohort that will participate in development opportunities, including a Capstone project, informational interviews with staff, and organization-wide training and discussions.

    This position is classified as “Regular Remote Work”, which means the position is not assigned to an office and can work remotely full-time. The State Capacity Building Intern will need to be onsite during the conference the week of April 27-May 1, 2026 in Chicago, IL.

    General working conditions:

    • Operate in a professional office or home office environment, and routinely use standard office equipment including, but not limited to, computers, phones, photocopiers, and audiovisual systems.
    • Largely sedentary, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
    • Communicates with internal and external stakeholders using electronic platforms.

    Applicants must be located in and legally authorized to work in the United States. Applicants must reside in the location listed above.

    Intern Will Gain Experience in:

    • Working with digital event management and collaborative tools, including Swoogo and Google Workspace.
    • Conference planning, especially supporting event logistics and agenda design that reflect LCV and the CVM’s goals in advancing racial justice and equity.
    • Collecting and disseminating network-wide resources and communication.
    • Building facilitation skills and incorporating inclusive practices into our online and in-person gatherings.
    • Working collaboratively across the organization and network-wide to achieve shared goals.
    • Project management and administrative skills.

    Qualifications:

    • Experience: Experience in supporting event coordination and planning.
    • Skills: Highly organized; strong attention to detail; excellent written and oral communications skills; strong research skills; exhibits solid judgment; critical thinking skills; able to work independently and as a team; able to handle multiple tasks; self-starter; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.
    • Racial Justice and Equity Competencies: Demonstrated awareness of how one’s life experiences influence one’s personal attitudes, biases, and assumptions. Demonstrated commitment to continual learning and ability to successfully deliver culturally responsive services. Commitment to equity and inclusion as organizational practice and culture. Understands how environmental issues intersect with racism, economic and social inequality in the U.S. and has a passion for working to dismantle these systems. Commitment to environmental protection and mission of LCV.
