Schedule and Compensation: Up to 40 hours per week; $17.95 per hour

    General Description:

The League of Conservation Voters, Inc. (“LCV”), a non-profit organization, builds political power to protect people and the planet. We envision a world in which tackling the climate crisis, confronting environmental injustice, and strengthening our democracy lead to cleaner and healthier communities, good, well-paying jobs, and a more just, equitable, and sustainable planet for all.

For more than 50 years, LCV has fought for solutions to the interconnected threats our environment and democracy face. We do so by working with and holding elected officials accountable, mobilizing, organizing, and building grassroots power in communities, electing candidates who share our values, and partnering with and supporting our 30+ state affiliates across the country.

LCV is hiring a Climate Protection and Resilience intern who will support the Senior Director for Climate and Clean Energy Solutions in advocacy work to fight the EPA’s proposed plan to undermine federal authority to limit carbon pollution, and to defend against attacks on the federal agencies charged with protecting communities from climate risks.

The Climate Protection and Resilience Intern will work with the Senior Director for Clean Energy and Climate Solutions to advance an advocacy campaign to:

    • Guard against the repeal of the EPA’s 2009 “endangerment finding” which is the legal underpinning limiting carbon pollution from power plants and vehicles.
    • Pressure relevant government agencies to protect communities from the dangers of extreme weather and expose the impacts of federal budget cuts on agencies — including FEMA, the EPA, NOAA, and the NWS — whose established role has historically been to guard against and respond to climate disasters.
    • Research and track the advocacy efforts of key partners and stakeholders working to preserve the EPA's authority to regulate carbon pollution, and identify opportunities for collaborative messaging and campaigning.
    • Learn which message frames best support the work outlined above, and develop effective advocacy materials and content (e.g., messaging toolkits, potential LTE’s and Op-Ed templates, etc)

The Climate Protection and Resilience Intern will join a Spring 2026 internship cohort that will participate in development opportunities, including a Capstone project, informational interviews with staff, and organization-wide training and discussions.

This position is classified as “Regular Remote Work”, which means it is not assigned to an office and can be worked on remotely full-time.

    General working conditions:

    • Operate in a professional office or home office environment, and routinely use standard office equipment including, but not limited to, computers and phones.
    • Largely sedentary, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
    • Communicates with internal and external stakeholders using electronic platforms.

Applicants must be located in and legally authorized to work in the United States. Applicants must reside in the location listed above.

    Intern Will Gain Experience in:

    • Partnering in collaborative joint advocacy work with climate movement allies and diverse stakeholders in sectors including public health, clean energy business, Labor, and environmental justice.
    • Turning effective messaging and strategic message frames into effective grassroots messaging and content.
    • Understanding effective policy and lobbying strategies.
    • Learning about how one of the largest and most impactful U.S. environmental organizations drives advocacy initiatives.
    • Integrating racial and environmental justice objectives into broader campaign and advocacy work.

    Qualifications:

    • Skills: Highly organized; strong attention to detail; excellent written and oral communication skills; experience working with coalitions and/or grassroots or student organizations; strong research skills; exhibits solid judgment; critical thinking skills; able to work independently and as a team; able to handle multiple tasks; self-starter; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.
    • Racial Justice and Equity Competencies: Demonstrated awareness of how one’s life experiences influence one’s personal attitudes, biases, and assumptions. Demonstrated commitment to continual learning and ability to successfully deliver culturally responsive services. Commitment to equity and inclusion as organizational practice and culture. Understands how environmental issues intersect with racism, economic and social inequality in the U.S. and has a passion for working to dismantle these systems.
