About NAMI-NYC Metro:

NAMI-NYC is one of the largest affiliates of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Our mission is to provide support, education, and advocacy for individuals and families affected by mental illness. We offer a wide range of free programs and services to help individuals with mental health conditions, as well as their loved ones, navigate the challenges they face. NAMI-NYC Metro is dedicated to raising awareness about mental health and reducing stigma surrounding mental illness.

Job Description:

NAMI-NYC Metro is seeking a dedicated and passionate intern to join our team as a Development and Events Intern. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the nonprofit sector, specifically in fundraising and event planning. As an intern, you will work closely with our Development and Events team to support various fundraising initiatives and assist in organizing events that raise vital funds for our programs and services.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in planning and executing fundraising events, including our largest community fundraiser, NAMIWalks NYC and Mental Health Street Fest, and other community-driven initiatives.
• Research and identify potential corporate sponsors, individual donors, and foundations.
• Assist with individual donor stewardship, including sending acknowledgment letters, making thank you calls, maintaining the donor database, and preparing for donor cultivation events.
• Assist in creating and distributing fundraising materials, such as appeal letters, email campaigns, and social media content.
• Provide general administrative support, including data entry, filing, and event logistics.
• Attend team meetings and contribute to brainstorming sessions for fundraising strategies and event ideas.
• Assist with post-event evaluation, including gathering feedback and analyzing fundraising results.

Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in a college or university, preferably in a related field (e.g., nonprofit management, communications, marketing, event planning, etc.).
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Passion for mental health advocacy and a commitment to NAMI's mission.
• Fundraising experience preferred but not required
