Overview:

National Council of Jewish Women New York (NCJW NY) seeks an organized, motivated, and passionate undergraduate or graduate student to support our economic justice advocacy work. Since its founding in 1894, NCJW NY has worked to address economic and social inequality, speaking out to educate the public and influence legislators to implement progressive, equitable policies. Our advocacy has tackled critical issues such as child labor, sweatshops, and domestic violence, and today, we remain a leading voice in the fight for economic justice — including universal basic income, fair wages, affordable childcare, food security, and equitable labor practices.

This position is an excellent opportunity for a student seeking hands-on experience in policy research, communications, program development, and volunteer coordination within a dynamic nonprofit committed to intersectional economic equity.

Reporting Relationships:

The Economic Justice Intern reports to the Director of Advocacy and Volunteer Engagement and collaborates with a diverse group of volunteers and organizational partners.

Responsibilities Include:

• • Researching economic justice policy issues affecting women and marginalized communities in New York City (e.g., housing insecurity, paid family leave, workplace discrimination, childcare access).
  • Assisting in the writing and editing of advocacy materials such as policy briefs, fact sheets, and calls to action.
  • Supporting the creation of social media content and monitoring platforms for relevant policy developments and campaigns.
  • Helping to maintain databases of coalition partners, elected officials, and legislative contacts.
  • Tracking and compiling data related to NCJW NY’s economic justice initiatives and outcomes.
  • Reaching out to community-based organizations for partnership and joint advocacy efforts.
  • Supporting the planning and execution of educational and advocacy events (e.g., speaker events, lobby visits, or workshops).
  • Contacting elected officials to gather support for economic justice legislation.
  • Attending coalition meetings and community forums, as needed.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• • High school degree.
  • Relevant work, academic, or volunteer experience in policy, advocacy, or social justice.
  • Skilled in using Excel or Google Sheets for organizing and tracking data.
  • Excellent writing and research skills.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms for advocacy and communication.

• • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Comfort interacting with a wide range of stakeholders, including volunteers, staff, coalition partners, and public officials.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Passion for advancing economic equity and NCJW NY’s broader mission.

Hours and Compensation:

The Economic Justice Intern will report in person or remotely to NCJW NY for 8-10 hours per week (exact schedule to be determined) through Spring 2026. The intern will receive a stipend of one hundred dollars ($100) per week.
