    Duration: Up to 12 Weeks - Expected January 20 - April 10, 2026

    Schedule and Compensation: Up to 20 hours per week; $17.95 per hour

    General Description:

    The League of Conservation Voters, Inc. (“LCV”), a non-profit organization, builds political power to protect people and the planet.     For more than 50 years, LCV has fought for solutions to the interconnected threats our environment and democracy face. We do so by working with and holding elected officials accountable, mobilizing, organizing, and building grassroots power in communities, electing candidates who share our values, and partnering with and supporting our 30+ state affiliates across the country.

    LCV is hiring a Major Gifts & Development Intern who will support the Managing Director of Development Partnerships in supporting implementation of the organization’s major gifts strategy, with a focus on major gift strategy and analysis, donor cultivation, and stewardship. The ideal candidate for this internship is a Master’s-level student preparing for a career in nonprofit leadership or philanthropy, particularly in major gift fundraising. The intern will gain hands-on experience working with senior development staff, engaging with donors, and supporting strategies that drive transformational giving. The Major Gifts & Development Intern will join a Spring 2026 internship cohort that will participate in development opportunities, including a Capstone project, informational interviews with staff, and organization-wide training and discussions.

    Professional Development Opportunities:

    • Gain direct exposure to major gifts fundraising strategy and best practices.
    • Receive mentorship from seasoned development professionals.
    • Learn the full lifecycle of major gift cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.

    This position is classified as “Regular Remote Work”, which means the position is not assigned to an office and can work remotely full-time.

    General working conditions:

    • Operate in a professional office or home office environment, and routinely use standard office equipment including, but not limited to, computers, phones, photocopiers, and audiovisual systems.
    • Largely sedentary, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
    • Communicates with internal and external stakeholders using electronic platforms.

    Applicants must be located in and legally authorized to work in the United States. Applicants must reside in the location listed above.

    Intern Will Gain Experience in:

    • Donor Cultivation & Engagement
      • Drafting personalized correspondence, talking points, and stewardship touchpoints for major donors.
      • Supporting preparation for donor meetings, including creating briefing memos and follow-up materials.
      • Assisting in coordinating small cultivation events, roundtables, and intimate donor gatherings.
    • Major Gift Strategy & Analysis
      • Assisting in the development of donor engagement strategies and pipeline management.
      • Analyzing donor giving trends and help identify opportunities for upgraded giving.
      • Supporting moves management by updating tracking systems and preparing progress reports.

    Qualifications:

    • Education: Preferred - Currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program in Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Philanthropy, or a related field.
    • Skills: Required - Highly organized; strong attention to detail; able to manage confidential information; excellent written and interpersonal communications skills; strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear donor briefs; exhibits solid judgment; critical thinking skills; able to work independently and as a team; able to handle multiple tasks; self-starter; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite. Demonstrated interest in major gifts, donor relations, and philanthropy at the leadership level. Preferred - Familiarity with fundraising databases (e.g. Salesforce).
