The Society of Environmental Journalists is a lively educational community of more than 1,250 journalists, educators and students in the U.S., Canada and 45 other countries. SEJ's mission is strengthen the quality, reach and viability of journalism
across all media to advance public understanding of environmental
issues. The organization was founded in 1990 by a small group of reporters, editors, photographers and producers. Today the group is known for comprehensive annual conferences, Freedom of Information Watchdog project, Awards for Reporting on Environment and story project grants from the Fund for Environmental Journalism. Upcoming SEJ conferences will take place September 21-25, 2016 in Sacramento, CA hosted by UC Davis and October 4-8, 2017 in in Pittsburgh, PA hosted by the University of Pittsburgh.
