  • Sobre Nós

The Food Literacy Project is a non-profit nutrition and environmental education partner to an 8-acre vegetable farm with the mission of inspiring a new generation of people to build relationships with healthy food, farming, and the land.

Our experiential Field-to-Fork Programs engage youth with fresh and healthy food as they harvest vegetables straight from the field, using them to prepare recipes they help develop. This hands-on method is a proven, effective way of increasing the appeal of fruits and vegetables – because fresh vegetables just taste better!

While our curriculum correlates to standard core content, we take a learn-by-discovery approach, cultivating a sense of wonder in participants about the natural world.

In 2011, 82% of the JCPS students we served were eligible for free or reduced lunch at their school – indicative of our effort to target low-income populations, who are more at-risk for diet and health related diseases.

We serve K-12 students from public, private and parochial schools, families, community centers, and nutrition and education professionals in the Metro Louisville as we work toward a just and sustainable future wherein people foster a deep understanding of what connects us to each other and to the natural world.
