Sobre Nós

The Anthropology Department at the University of the Witwatersrand is developing 'The Emjindini Heritage and Healing Centre', in Barberton, Mpumalanga, South Africa. We are looking for an intern to develop and manage the Heritage aspect of the project. The project aims to explore Swazi culture and history by using a Travelling Museum. As it is a priority of the project, to develop a community museum, the intern would also be expected to train and manage the 6 young people from the Emjindini area who are currently working on the project. The museum emphasises learning through spoken rather than written information, this is done by recording local people's memories and storytelling. This internship is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who is interested alternative approaches to a museum, income generation in a developing community, drama and storytelling and the role of museums in South Africa. For more information please contact Professor Thornton.
