Camp Kesem Arizona State University

Sobre Nós

Camp Kesem is a college student-run summer camp for kids with a parent who has (or has had) cancer. Our one-week sleep away camps are a chance for kids ages 6 -16 years old to have a fun-filled week to just be kids, free from the burden of cancer. Everything we do at Camp Kesem focuses on our goal of giving our campers the most fun week possible, while providing the extra support and attention they need. Camp Kesem at Arizona State was founded in 2007, and this summer will be our 6th summer camp!

We are mandated by a national board that holds us to many standards and rules. One of these standards is the required presence of a mental health professional at our camp. This individual must have their master's degree in psychology, social work, or counseling.

As a non- profit we heavily rely on donations and therefore do not always have enough funding to pay a mental health professional to be at camp with us. Our previous MHP has dropped and we are struggling to find a replacement with camp being less than one month away. We are kindly asking local mental health professional organizations and businesses if anyone would be interested in donating their time from July 6th to July 12th, 2014. Their room/ board and food is entirely paid for, as well as a ride to and from camp. Additionally, the time spent at Camp Kesem counts towards hours for any recent graduates with master's degrees. Please contact me if you or anyone you know would be interested in donating their time. You may also e-mail: asu.outreach@campkesem.org

Camp 2014 will be July 6th-12th at Camp Tontozona in Payson, AZ. We will provide a charter bus to transport children and counselors to and from Scottsdale, or you can meet us at camp on check-in day.

  • Camp Kesem programs are FREE of charge for the participating campers/families. No catch. UF students raise all of the money and organize the entire camp!
  • Camp activities include sports, arts & crafts, team building, camp fires, and “Cabin Chats”
  • Counselors are rigorously trained on camp safety, communication, behavior management, emergency & medical procedures, and grief & mourning.
