Prevention Corps

  • Sobre Nós

Prevention Corps is an AmeriCorps program that is educating and empowering communities across Connecticut to end the opioid crisis. The Prevention Corps mission is to provide proactive, community-focused solutions in opioid education, awareness, and stigma reduction.

Members' specific position descriptions can differ greatly depending on their host site, but all engage in community education and harm reduction efforts through coordinating and directly providing training in the use of Narcan, a medication that can reverse an opioid overdose emergency, and leading presentations on stigma reduction, recovery, and Connecticut’s opioid epidemic.

Prevention Corps Members are placed with nonprofit organizations or city/state agencies (host sites), across the state for a ten-month term of service. These paid apprenticeships build the capacity of organizations and provide a career-building experience for Members.

Prevention Corps might seem similar to an internship in that it offers mentoring, networking opportunities, and experience in a field – but is different in that it is a commitment to serve your community.

In addition to all the benefits of an internship, you will also receive a monthly cash stipend and an education award for tuition and student loans. Preventions Corps members receive monthly trainings, weekly support from Prevention Corps staff, and real-world experience in the non-profit and public health sector.

Prevention Corps Class of 2023 will begin in November for a service term of 900 hours, or approximately 25 hrs / week. Over your ten-month term of service, there is a stipend of $8,400, paid out twice monthly, plus a $3,247 Education Award you can use towards tuition or student loans.
