LEAD VOLUNTEER

Lead Volunteers are the face of Midwest Food Bank during the volunteer groups’ time in our warehouse and are responsible for passionately sharing our mission through their leadership. This role is more often relational than participatory. While lead volunteers can jump in to help, you will spend most of your time bouncing around and having conversations with the participants.

Some of the responsibilities of a Lead Volunteer are to get the project area and products ready to be worked on, introduce Midwest by showing an intro video, sharing information about MFB, and answering questions. Ensuring everyone is signed in and out, explain and facilitate the group through their service project, ensure everyone understands their role in the project, leading the group through clean up after the project is completed, and celebrate at the end of the project. Often the Lead Volunteer will lead groups when staff members are not present.

This role is often performed Monday through Friday 8am-4pm, however, groups do come in on evenings throughout the week and on Saturdays from 9am until Noon. Lead Volunteers are key in allowing evening and Saturday projects to happen.
