Support older adults to thrive in their own homes

What are you passionate about? What activities lift your spirits and give you creative energy? We need you and your talents! The Neighbors Network of Lee County (NNLC) is a grassroots, all volunteer nonprofit organization established to support older adults in Lee County who wish to thrive in their own homes with a strong social network. We are a start-up organization, and you can help build us as we discover ways together to support community building across Lee County!

Each volunteer opportunity is listed below:

    1. Host programs and classes (welcome and sign people in, set-up meeting room, answer questions).

    2. Create flyers in Canva. We will help train you. It is fun and creative, and you will learn new skills that you can use for many other purposes.

    3. Become a certified instructor for the Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida (AAASWFL) programs such as Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention, Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program and other health and wellness programs sponsored by the AAASWFL. Training to teach these programs is free and well suited for members of the public. You can do it! And we will help you. Teaching others is empowering and fun.

    4. Attend meetings and classes of other organizations/agencies that host programs for older adults and report back to the NNLC to keep all of us informed about similar local programs.

    5. Manage NNLC Facebook page and help us connect to other organizations and people in Lee County. Help by sending news and flyers to media sources to get the word out about programs and the NNLC.

    6. Become a certified instructor for Breath-Body-Mind. Attend one of our classes to learn more about calming the mind through breath.

    7. Become a Program Leader/Peer Leader for StrongPeople Strong Bodies of NNLC/RSVP. We provide the training. Do you who have a passion for fitness and have relevant background in weightlifting or teaching wellness programs? If so, this is for you.

    8. Serve as leader/team member to further the NNLC objective to begin supporting one-on-one volunteer activities. We are building a volunteer corps to help with such activities as friendly visits, technology help, and transportation. We are building the infrastructure and volunteers to be able to do this, aiming for beginning these direct ways to help by 2027, earlier if we have help!

    9. Assist with technology. Help us with Dropbox/Google Docs, Mailchimp, online web forms, Adobe Acrobat, and the other programs we use to manage our events and volunteer activities.

    10. Help with classes to support older adults with tablet/mobile technology. One little bit of help can often make a big difference and connect us to the world through email, zoom, access to the vast digital resources of the Lee County Library System, and the rest of the Internet.
