ICT VOLUNTEER/INTERNSHIP

Seeds Of Change has put together the Information Technology and Computer Volunteer Program, in recognition of it as an efficient means of communication. With basic computer skills. Africa not only have greater employment prospects, but you can access a wealth of global knowledge to help them locally. By promoting computer science in Africa to our youths, our volunteers are empowering our community to explore and take charge of new possibilities for growth.

More than 97% of youths in Africa do not have access to computers. Very few public schools have introduced Information Technology centres and if they do, there is limited computer access. As well as unreliable power, and at the same time with only few teachers who are qualified to teach such skills. Widespread computer skills are still in its inception in Africa, therefore it is essential that they be provided to eager youths giving them the same opportunities as their counterparts around the world. Even basic skills can empower communities – as a foundation for future self-guided learning.

Volunteers will assist youths, school children with theoretical and practical classes. Generally classes last for 110 minutes and a volunteer would be having 4 classes a week. The volunteer can form courses from basic computer skills up to advanced, as well as providing basic hardware maintenance tips. Computer skills education is valuable, as an investment for future gains and something that will remain long-term.

OUR ACCOMMODATION , MEALS AND AMENITIES

Volunteers are accommodated in volunteer houses and you chose to share or not to share a room. Free wifi, swimming pool and a gym for volunteers.we recommend volunteers to bring their own towel and toiletries. The accommodation is safe and secure with the houses located in a safe area in town near the community where volunteers work. Living is comfortable and the volunteer houses have electricity and running water with Western toilets.

our volunteers receive three meals per day (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and meals served in the volunteer house are typically Western-style. Breakfast consists of self-serve tea, coffee, toast and cereal. At breakfast time, volunteers are also provided with food for making a sandwich as a packed lunch for their project, this is particularly important for Teaching volunteers to note, as your day usually ends after lunch. Dinner consists of dishes containing meat, vegetables and a starch, such as potatoes, bread or pasta. Bottled water is readily available in and you should budget approximately US$2 per week for this (5 liters per day), however tap water is fine to drink in the volunteer houses and most other areas. If you have any special dietary requirements, please let us know as we program and make arrangements for you. However, we need to stress the point that you should expect to eat more as you normally do at home. We will do our best to see that you are well taken care of, but also as a volunteer.
