The Friendly Visiting Program aims to reduce isolation and loneliness amongst seniors in our Queens neighborhoods and communities. The program matches volunteers with homebound seniors for weekly visits for one hour. These can be done in-person or via telephone.
Our older adults live in Western, Southwest and Central Queens. These areas include: Long Island City, Astoria, Sunnyside, Woodside, Jackson Heights, Elmhurst, Corona, Maspeth, Middle Village, Ridgewood, Glendale, Rego Park, Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Woodhaven, Richmond Hill, Howard Beach, Ozone Park, Jamaica, Hollis, St. Albans, The Rockaways and Broad Channel. Some examples of how volunteers can spend time with their matched senior are: chatting, playing games, looking at photo albums, watching TV, reading to your senior, etc.
Friendly Visiting volunteers must be 18 and over, provide 2 non-related references, be open to committing to 6 months of volunteerism, and consent to a background check. Volunteers can either call or do in-person visits the older adult upon approval.
