    Descrição

The Tech Ethics & Surveillance Fellow will support the Peace Economy Project (PEP) in investigating how surveillance technologies—especially those developed or deployed through military or corporate partnerships—impact civil liberties, communities of color, and global peace. The fellow will help shape research and advocacy that critiques the ethical dimensions of AI, predictive policing, biometric surveillance, and digital authoritarianism, with a focus on demilitarizing tech and redirecting innovation toward justice and care.

This is a critical opportunity for a tech-savvy researcher or advocate who is committed to interrogating power in technology and ensuring communities—not corporations or militaries—guide how tech is developed and used.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Research and analyze:
      • The ethical implications of surveillance technologies (e.g., facial recognition, geofencing, biometric tracking, drone surveillance)
      • Tech company partnerships with law enforcement and defense agencies (e.g., Palantir, Amazon, Anduril, xAI, Clearview AI)
      • Local, national, and international legislation on digital surveillance and data privacy
    • Track the deployment of military-grade tech in domestic policing, immigration enforcement, and protest suppression.
    • Contribute to PEP’s “Redirecting AI for Peace” campaign and collaborations with digital rights coalitions.
    • Produce accessible educational materials such as:
      • Briefing papers and fact sheets
      • Blog posts or public explainer articles
      • Infographics or social media toolkits
    • Assist with planning or supporting webinars, teach-ins, or podcast episodes on tech ethics and surveillance.
