Oceanside First Presbyterian Church's Groceries with Grace program serves 70-80 families each month. The program provides each family with dry goods, fresh produce, and proteins. The families they serve are food insecure and are often not sure where their next meal is coming from or they have to choose between eating and other necessities.
Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes
Key Responsibilities:
Set up tables and tents
Sort, bag and carry groceries
Skills & Qualifications:
No prior experience required
Comfortable working indoors and outdoors
Able to lift grocery bags and stand for extended periods
Volunteers with physical limitations can be accommodated
Open to volunteers of all backgrounds; participation in prayer is optional
Training Provided:
On-site training provided at the beginning of the shift
Attire: Closed-toe shoes and casual clothing. Volunteers will be in both indoor and outdoor spaces throughout this project so you may want sun protection such as a hat and sunscreen
Bring: Water bottle
Physical Requirements: Lifting bags of groceries and standing for about an hour during the distribution. Accommodations as needed can be made for individuals with physical limitations. The project space is wheelchair accessible
Weather: This event takes place rain or shine
Religious Observance: There will be a quick prayer with volunteers at the beginning, but volunteers can opt out
