Come together with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful and local community members in the Willard Park Neighborhood to tackle litter at this large cleanup event. We will focus on cleaning litter near and around the former women’s prison and will span the entire neighborhood north of Washington Street. Cleaning litter beautifies our city while protecting our local ecosystems, including our soil, waterways, plants, and wildlife, from pollution. Litter prevention is one of the easiest things we can do to keep our city clean, but it takes all of us doing our part. This project was brought to KIB by Joey Newsom, who is a deeply involved neighbor. In addition, all volunteers will receive a Great Indy Cleanup t-shirt as a thank you for their hard work!
Safety: We highly recommend wearing sunscreen, weather-appropriate clothing, and close-toed shoes. If you are interested in picking up litter along fence lines, please wear long sleeves and pants to minimize potential poison ivy exposure. We always recommend bringing a reusable water bottle but we will have disposable cups available if needed. KIB will provide all supplies, such as litter grabbers, gloves, and trash bags. While this event is family friendly, all young children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times due to the proximity of busy roads.
Parking, Facilities + Special Instructions: Parking will be available at the former women’s prison (401 N Randolph St.), and the surrounding streets. There will be a portalette available for use in the parking lot. We will then disperse into four groups. At 12pm, volunteers will make their way back to celebrate and wrap up the project.
