Position Overview
The Nominee Research Officer is a key role within the NESA-NRC volunteer team tasked with identifying, verifying, and documenting changemakers in education across Africa, the African Diaspora, and international partners. As part of a 30-member team, you’ll help curate a database of 6,000+ impactful nominees for the NESA-Africa 2025 Awards.
Engagement Period: July 15 - October 15, 2025
Application Deadline: August 30, 2025
Location: Remote (Flexible, globally accessible)
Reporting To: Nominee Research Coordinator & Chief Volunteer Officer (CVO)
Key Responsibilities
- Select One Country & Category/Subcategory: Focus your research on one assigned African nation or diaspora region, and one of 17 major award categories or subcategories (e.g., STEM Education, EduTech, CSR, Creative Arts, etc.).
- Conduct Research: Use reputable sources (news, academic reports, NGO documentation) to identify potential nominees who exemplify impact, innovation, and alignment with SDG 4, AU Agenda 2063, and ESG frameworks.
- Verify Information: Supplement research with at least two independent references to confirm nominee achievements.
- Complete Nominee Profiles: Create 100+ structured profiles including:
- Full name (individual or organization)
- Country/Region
- Award subcategory assigned
- Summary of impact (100-200 words)
- Metrics (e.g., number of beneficiaries, sustainability efforts)
- Evidence links (media, official reports, websites)
- Contact information (email, social media, phone)
- Photo or logo (optional)
- Upload to NRC Portal: Enter data using the provided online form/dashboard, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
- Tag & Categorize: Assign nominees to appropriate award tiers:
- Africa Icon (Lifetime Impact - Blue Garnet)
- Gold Certificate Awards (Competitive)
- Platinum Certificate Awards (Recognition)
- Collaborate & Report: Participate in weekly check-ins, update progress via Asana or Slack, and address feedback or validation requests.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Passionate about African education, social impact, and systems transformation
- Solid research and writing skills; ability to synthesize information clearly
- Comfortable with digital tools like Google Sheets, Docs, and online forms
- Knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, SDG 4, AU Agenda 2063, and ESG principles
- Reliable internet access and strong self-discipline
- Target-oriented: ready to upload ≥ 200 verified profiles within 30 days
