A Call for Circle of Good Minds

HYU Spiritual Life & Learning Society (HYU), is an independent, organized, Universal Spiritual Temple. This temple acknowledges the Transcendent regardless of the various traditions embraced.  Established in the star year of 411 (2012), for the restoration of an ancient spiritual foundation for studying & knowing the self.

In a world grappling with disconnection, spiritual imbalance and the erosion of ancient wisdom, HYU offers a haven for healing and transformation. Based in Chicago, we provide a sacred space for spiritual growth, self-knowledge and personal transformation. We aim to restore balance within individuals and the world by drawing on ancient wisdom and effective methods in personal development.

This year, HYU is committed to building upon its strong start. We focus on securing resources, expanding our team and establishing robust administrative and economic systems to support our vision. Through our work, we envision a world where individuals live in harmony with themselves, their communities and nature.

HYU Circle of Good Minds operates as horizontal council of leaders understanding one head does not make a council. CGM consists of sacred & secular members. All are Elders (18+), Male and

female and not seeking recognition. The Circle consist of at least 5 members with a limit of 12.

The Circle of Good Minds consists of:

Sacred Service Leaders 

1. These leaders ensure administrative, governmental & wise operations

They are administrative/record creators-keepers & keeps all written records, file all paperwork needed for society; Keep all financial records, manage the budget, money, and assets

2. These leaders are governmental/law seekers & supervise the day to day secular, sacred & legal operations and activities.

As a part of the Circle of Good Minds all must agree to and understand the following: Basic commitments, Basic responsibilities, expectations & benefits & Articles of Association

Basic Commitments

As a leader of HYU the basic required commitments are:

One year membership, 10-hours per week, Monthly report of duty to be evaluated every quarter, Take on one of the leadership positions or become a Trustee (qualification applies) 

Basic Responsibilities

• Determine the organization’s mission and purpose
• Select leadership
• Support the leadership and assess their performance
• Ensure effective organizational planning
• Ensure adequate resources
• Manage resources effectively
• Determine, monitor, and strengthen the organization’s programs and services
• Enhance the organization’s standing

Basic Expectations

Initial Members Must:

a.  Complete a Circle of Good Minds application

b.  Attend Monthly leadership session

c.  Complete orientation & leadership training

After orientation & training:

• Choose position of leadership
• Turn in a resume/curriculum vitae
• Promote & Practice Seven Cardinal Virtues and Nguza Saba
• Complete an annual evaluation
• Attend at least 1 internal development workshop

Basic Benefits

General benefits are access to self healing resources, self-sustainability network, self governance workshops & training, etc. Basic benefits will be explained during leadership training
