    Homeownership Mentor

    Make a Difference as a Mentor

    Purpose: To guide and support future homeowners as they work toward achieving stability and independence through Habitat for Humanity

    As a homeownership mentor (Family Partner), you'll play a vital role in empowering individuals and families on their journey to homeownership. By providing guidance on budgeting, setting and reaching savings goals, and fulfilling sweat equity requirements, you'll help future homeowners build the skills and confidence they need for long-term success.

    Sweat equity includes hands-on work in home construction, participation in financial and homeownership education courses, and volunteering in various ways with Habitat for Humanity. Your mentorship will provide acountability, encouragement, and practical support to ensure each family makes the most of this life-changing opportunity.

    We welcome families from diverse backgrounds, including young individuals, large households, and those nearing retirement. Each future homeowner's journey is unique, and as a Family Partner, you'll be a trusted guide and advocate for their specific needs and goals.

    Qualifications:

    Good listener and relationship builder, sensitive to issues that may result from living with a limited income, confidentiality, willingness to learn sweat equity guidelines. willing to participate in construction workdays on occasion.

    Commitment Required:

    From approval to home ownership can be up to two years. Partners usually meet twice a month: once with the Family Navigator, and once with their assigned family. Meetings are typically an hour or less, depending on how much support the family needs.

    Work Location:

    Monthly team meetings at Habitat for Humanity office in Hayden, monthly meeting with your assigned family that can be done at a location of your choosing, or even virtually! We currently have a Family Partner who travels for work but is able to maintain a connection with their family via phone calls and zoom meetings.

    Training:

    Training includes review of habitat’s history and mission, affiliate policies and procedures, purposes of family support, and monthly meetings with the Family Navigator and other Family Partners who can provide insight and advice on any roadblocks your assigned family might face.
