    About Boundless Freedom Project

Boundless Freedom Project is a nonprofit organization committed to bringing healing-centered reentry, mindfulness, and compassionate community-building to incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals. Rooted in transformative justice and Buddhist principles, our work includes in-prison programming, post-release support, and capacity-building for systems impacted communities.

We currently operate programs within facilities such as San Quentin Rehabilitation Center and Rikers Island, and we partner with institutions across the U.S. to expand access to mindfulness, trauma-informed care, and reentry navigation.

    Board Member Responsibilities

As a member of the Board of Directors, you will play a vital role in stewarding BFP’s mission, growth, and sustainability. Board members are expected to bring their time, talent, and network to support the organization's strategic direction, governance, and fundraising efforts.

    Core Responsibilities:

    • Provide strategic oversight and support the organization’s mission and long-term goals.
    • Attend and actively participate in quarterly board meetings (virtual or in person).
    • Participate in at least one board committee (Development, Finance, Programs, or Governance).
    • Support fundraising and outreach efforts through personal and professional networks.
    • Act as an ambassador for BFP in your community and area of expertise.
    • Contribute to an inclusive and mindful organizational culture.

We Are Especially Seeking Individuals With Expertise In:

    • Mindfulness & Healing-Centered Practices: Professionals grounded in contemplative traditions, trauma-informed care, or restorative justice.
    • Development & Fundraising: Individuals with experience in nonprofit development, donor engagement, grant writing, or major gifts strategy.
    • Marketing & Communications: Professionals skilled in storytelling, brand strategy, digital outreach, or nonprofit marketing.

    Ideal Candidate Qualities:

    • Deep commitment to equity, racial justice, and liberation-based work.
    • Lived or professional experience with the criminal justice system is strongly welcomed.
    • Collaborative, compassionate, and mission-driven mindset.
    • Prior board experience is a plus but not required.

    Compensation:

This is a volunteer (unpaid) position. However, the impact of your service contributes to deeply transformative work in justice-involved communities.
