Teach ESOL to Adult Learners in NOVA

More than 150,000 adults in Northern Virginia have limited English proficiency. With a large network of volunteers who serve as teachers, class aides, and tutors, the English Empowerment Center (EEC) teaches English to beginning-level learners at 16 different locations in Alexandria, Annandale, Arlington, Falls Church, Herndon, Lorton, and Reston.

EEC is seeking ESOL instructors who display a high degree of professionalism, intercultural sensitivity, a belief in lifelong learning, and a strong commitment to adult learners to join a committed, collaborative team.

 Responsibilities include:

• Teaching English to classes of adult immigrants and refugees representing a wide range of cultures and educational backgrounds.
• Creating engaging and effective lesson plans incorporating assigned textbooks, authentic materials, and technology.
• Collaborating with volunteer class aides to maximize classroom learning opportunities.
• Recording and updating online class records, such as attendance, homework completion.

Required Qualifications:

• 1-2 years ESL/EFL classroom teaching experience with adults or other strong teaching background
• Experience working with a diverse learner population
