To enhance the quality of life for our clientele (children, families and adults), thereby restoring clients to their optimal level of functioning.
To counter the effects of poverty, family breakdown and other social pathologies experienced by many New Yorkers, by providing a wide range of human services within the City of New York.
To deliver comprehensive, quality human services, Steinway's Board of Directors, executive staff, clinicians and support staff are committed to active collaboration between our agency and the clients we serve.
Our programs provide a full range of mental health and social services including psychiatric examinations, on-going treatment and referrals-all designed to meet client needs which included acute situational disorder, chronic mental illness, family breakup, domestic violence prevention, substance abuse and HIV/AIDS services and prevention.
Steinway Child and Family Services, Inc. (SCFS) was opened in May, 1972 as a satellite of Payne Whitney Psychiatric Clinic (New York Hospital) and represented the efforts and commitment of concerned community residents from Northwest Queens. While under the aegis of New York Hospital, SCFS was able to establish its legitimacy and later develop its own autonomy as a free-standing community clinic.
The agency now operates in four boroughs city-wide (Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan, and Queens) and has managed to develop from a single agency to a multiple- services agency. Each clinic provides a full range of mental health and social services including psychiatric examinations, on-going treatment and referrals, all designed to meet client needs which range from acute situational disorder to chronic mental illness. All mental health services are available on a sliding fee scale and are provided by trained professional staff. Social services are provided to the consumer by trained professional staff.
In its approach, Steinway Child and Family Services, Inc., through its Board, Executive and Staff, is deeply committed to active participation of service providers and consumers in a comprehensive and effective human services program and to delivery of quality mental health services to the residents of four New York City boroughs.
