The youngest candidate for City Council, Nick Boles is native to Los Angeles. Finding opportunity in Santa Monica as a business manager, he moved to the Mid- City area and joined a growing demographic of young professionals starting their careers in the beach city. As rental costs skyrocketed, community protests erupted, and the city's appearance changed, he felt a sense of urgency to become involved with the direction of Santa Monica's future.
As a resident of Santa Monica, Nick started going to City Council meetings and studying the programs and policies that were approved and denied by the current leadership. He joined local community organizations such as the Jaycees, Young Santa Monica, Santa Monicans' for Renters Rights, Santa Monica Democratic Club, Mid- City Neighbors, and the Community Emergency Response Team to move from an informal sense of civic engagement into a recognized set of groups and clubs that are based on explicit community ownership. He has emerged with the vision of a city where future generations of Santa Monicans can plant roots, live affordably, and raise a family by refocusing the current prosperity of the city around the wants and needs of its residents.
Nick Boles holds a degree in Economics and International Relations from California State University, Chico, and has completed the Coro Fellows Program in Public Affairs, a graduate- level program aimed to create ethical, diverse civic leaders. He is fluent in Spanish, and has lived in Central America, South America, and Europe, where he studied government- citizen relationships and economic development. Formerly a business manager and now a non- profit consultant, he employs his pragmatic knowledge from the business sector towards the passion of the non- profit sector to build and fortify mission driven organizations. Nick Boles hopes to use his cross- sectoral experience and drive for success to break down barriers to collaboration, build bridges across diverse communities, and move Santa Monica forward.
