About us

Young Audiences of Virginia first brought arts-in-education programs to children throughout Virginia in 1955. From its humble beginnings with a single string ensemble and a handful of volunteers, the organization has grown to one with more than 100 professional artists in various artistic disciplines. As part of a national network, Young Audiences, Inc. receives the National Medal of Arts, which was presented by President Bill Clinton to one of our national board members, Yo Yo Ma, at the White House.

Now celebrating its 54th anniversary and actively pursuing our mission into the 21st Century, we are providing approximately 2,600 hours each year, in schools throughout Virginia.

Our mission:

Fostering the Creative Development of Children Through the Arts. Integrating the arts into children's learning through:
• Performances that cultivate an understanding and appreciation of artistry, mastery, and the language of art forms.
• In-depth artist-in-residence programs that allow students to demonstrate multiple intelligences and practice applied creativity and self-expression.
• Professional development that encourages educators to use the arts as an innovative teaching tool.
