About us

Neighbors for Gregory Emmett Ahern, Jr. is an affinity group organized to elect Greg Ahern, Jr to the position of Judge in the 6th judicial subcircuit in Chicago, Illinois.

Greg Ahern is a career prosecutor with a distinguished record of accomplishments. A 16-year veteran of the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, Greg currently serves as First Chair in the Felony Trial Division. In that capacity, he leads the criminal prosecution of murder and other violent felony cases. He also supervises the work of assistant state's attorneys who prosecute felony matters.

As an assistant state's attorney in Cook County, Greg has litigated more than 50 felony jury trials, including more than 25 first degree murder cases, and hundreds of felony bench trials, many of which were homicide matters. In the course of his criminal prosecution work, Greg was admitted as Lead Counsel to the Capital Litigation Trial Bar. Greg has a broad array of legal experience having previously served in the Preliminary Hearings Unit, Felony Review Unit, Juvenile Justice Bureau (Delinquency & Child Protection Divisions) and the Appellate Division of the Cook County State's Attorney's Office. In addition to his work as a prosecutor, Greg is also a seasoned real estate attorney. Greg's efforts as an assistant state's attorney were recognized when he received the American Legion Award of Excellence for his outstanding work as an attorney in 2006.

Greg has been active in his local community, including the 32nd Ward of the 6th Subcircuit, for years. His community service includes having served as the community representative of the local school council for Drummond Montessori Magnet School.

A former football and academic standout at Benet Academy, Greg attended Drake University where he was awarded the Founders Scholarship and lettered in football all four years. Greg received his law degree at Southern Illinois University where he was a Dean's List scholar, Business Editor of the Law Journal, and devoted significant time providing free legal services to elderly and financially needy residents of Illinois.
