Youth On Fire (YOF) is committed to the premise that everyone has the right to physical and mental wellness regardless of whether they are housed or not. We acknowledge the need for a youth specific safe space for homeless young adults (14-24 years old) to access a variety of harm reduction based services with as few barriers as possible. YOF believes that the elements of self-determination and empowerment are vital to gaining control over one's personal health.
The YOF drop-in center was established in the fall of 2000 to provide a welcoming and non-judgmental environment for homeless and at-risk youth. YOF is open four days a week and serves young people between the ages of 14 and 24. Often the behaviors necessary to survive on the streets put these youth at a higher risk for contracting HIV. YOF serves the physical and mental needs of these youth. Youth On Fire is a free, safe, caring, relaxed, non-judgmental, and confidential place where youth can access services to help them reduce their risks and maintain control of their lives.
These services include: healthcare, counseling and support, hot meals, showers, laundry, clothing, anonymous HIV C&T, free voicemail, internet access, educational and employment opportunities, housing advocacy, peer-led education and support groups, art supplies, and referrals to additional services.
