Great Oaks Charter School (NYC)

Nonprofit or community organization

Last modified: December 18, 2014, 4:28 AM

The mission of the Great Oaks Charter School is to prepare its students to succeed in college. We will do this by instilling in students the scholarship, discipline, and honor necessary to be successful in college and to pursue a career of their choice.

Great Oaks' objectives are to create a rigorous, supportive middle and high school program that ensures its graduates have the requisite knowledge, skills, and habits of mind to earn a degree from a competitive four-year college or university. We strongly believe that all students can succeed in an atmosphere of high expectations and caring relationships where they receive considerable individual attention.

The Great Oaks Charter School of New York City opened its doors in August of 2013 with 90 students in 6th grade and will grow by one grade each year until it will serve 550 students in grades 6-12. The School draws a diverse population of students from over 30 zip codes across all five boroughs of New York City. After two years the school plans to relocate to a newly renovated building on Governors Island.

We are seeking determined people who share the belief that all students deserve to be prepared to succeed in college. Our founding staff will believe strongly in the Great Oaks mission and will do whatever it takes to deliver ambitious results for our students.
