About us

The Michigan American Friends
Service Committee is an
independent Quaker peace and
justice organization. In Michigan,
AFSC's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and
Transgender (LGBT) Issues
Program has been actively engaged
in facilitating and growing its new
initiative called the Faith Action
Network (FAN). The goal of FAN is to
create in Michigan, a movement led
by people of faith/spirit/conscience
that is both bold and imaginative with
the intention of organizing,
mobilizing, and training progressive
people of faith to lift up a powerful
and prophetic justice seeking voice
for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and
Transgender liberation.

FAN is led directly from the collective
leadings of a progressive grassroots
"think tank" called our "visioning
team" which consists of over 45
people of faith/spirit/conscience and
clergy from all areas and walks of life
in Michigan. This busy and
productive group has been
relentless in pursuing justice and
has shown a deep commitment to
the non-violent change work that is
needed in Michigan. To this date this
group has been successfully
organizing witnesses, protests,
conferences media campaigns,
and other tools for change on LGBT
issues.

FAN specifically works to secure
positive outcomes on Lesbian, Gay,
Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT)
policy issues and to shape public
opinion in key Michigan areas by
organizing and mobilizing
progressive clergy, lay people and
faith communities to take a firm and
proactive stand for Justice.
