At a Glance

• Position: Director of Programs and Delivery
• Reports To: Chief Executive Officer
• Direct Reports: 8 active consultants
• Location: Bay Area (Oakland preferred), Hybrid
• Time in Community: 20 to 40% on-site with clients and in the community

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary range: $120,000 to $130,000, commensurate with experience.
• Retirement: 401(k) with employer match up to 3%.
• Time off: Paid sick days, paid holidays, and an open, unlimited vacation policy.
• Travel: Reimbursed for travel to public meetings and client sites.
• Remote work: 60% or more of work is remote/virtual.
• Health insurance: Not offered directly at this time; candidates should have independent access to health coverage.

Role Summary

This is a hands-on delivery and leadership role, working closely with the CEO and the broader leadership team. The Director of Programs and Delivery provides subject-matter expertise grounded in nonprofit management and organizational development, leads day-to-day delivery across active projects, and directs a growing bench of consulting talent, including executive coaches, project managers, strategic planning and team-building consultants, grant writers, content developers, and an evaluator.

What You Will Own

Delivery Leadership

• Direct, hands-on involvement in project delivery across active engagements, not oversight from a distance.
• Own the quality and fit of work product across the full portfolio of active projects.
• Provide leadership visibility into progress and priorities across all engagements.

Scope, Grants & RFQ Support

• Partner closely on scoping new and complex opportunities.
• Contribute programmatic content to grant applications and RFQ/RFP responses.
• Ensure scopes are grounded in accurate programmatic content and realistic against team capacity, budget, and timeline.

Client & Community Engagement

• Own the day-to-day client relationship across active engagements.
• Spend meaningful time on the ground with clients and in the communities this work serves.

Team Leadership

• Direct a bench of consultants spanning multiple specialty areas.
• Partner with functional leaders across the organization on cross-functional engagements.
• Bring organizational development and nonprofit management expertise to engagements involving assessment, team building, or capacity building.

What Success Looks Like in Year One

• Active engagements run with consistent quality and client satisfaction, with delivery visibility that gives leadership real-time confidence in progress and priorities.
• The consulting bench operates with clear direction, coordination, and accountability.
• Programmatic content contributed to grant and RFQ responses reflects deep, credible sector expertise.
• Client relationships on active engagements are strong, responsive, and trusted.
• The organization feels the benefit of dedicated delivery leadership: faster response times, more consistent quality, and greater capacity to take on new work.

What We're Looking For

• Significant experience in nonprofit management and/or organizational development. This is core to the role, not a peripheral skill.
• Experience contributing to or leading grant, RFQ, or RFP responses.
• Comfort managing and directing a team of consultants or project contributors.
• Practical, hands-on AI literacy, comfortable using AI tools to increase the speed and quality of work, and able to model that for a team.
• Working knowledge of health, behavioral health, homelessness, or public safety sectors is a strong plus.
• Demonstrated ability to build trusted client relationships and deliver consistent, high-quality work under real-world constraints of budget, timeline, and capacity.
• Lived experience with the systems and communities we serve (e.g., homelessness, behavioral health, or public safety systems) is valued and will be considered alongside formal education and professional experience.
• Master's degree in nonprofit management, public administration, social work, public health, or a related field preferred; equivalent professional or lived experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Relevant certification a plus, such as PMP or Certified Nonprofit Professional (CNP).

Location & Work Arrangement

Bay Area based (Oakland preferred), hybrid schedule, with 20 to 40% of time on the ground in the community and on-site with clients, and the remainder working virtually with the team.
