Job Title: Director of Operations, Junior League of Austin
Location: Austin, TX
Salary: $100,000-$110,000
Date: July 30, 2026
Job Summary:
The Junior League of Austin's (JLA) Director of Operations will oversee the daily administrative operations of the Junior League including managing the staff, facilities, and certain other infrastructure needs. The Director of Operations provides continuity under each JLA Board President and assists with the annual Board transitions. The Director of Operations will balance the ongoing administrative duties with the current leadership's goals. This role will advance the JLA mission by identifying ways to grow the JLA's membership and message, and find new partners to help with the JLA's development and community impact efforts. The Director of Operations reports to the President of the Board of Directors, a volunteer position that rotates each year.
Reporting Structure:
This position has four direct reports: Finance Manager, CIC Events Manager, Development and Technology Manager, and Membership and Facilities Manager. The Director of Operations holds responsibility for board relations, finance, HR, compliance, and supports volunteer training and membership events. The role reports to the Board President.
Essential Job Functions:
Liaison between Staff and Volunteers
- Coordinates the Board and President to formulate staff annual strategies and plans, in the context of the overall JLA strategic plan.
- Informs the staff of Board decisions regarding organizational activities.
- Responsible for the implementation of Board directives, policies and procedures relating to organizational activities.
- When requested by the President, attends JLA Board Meetings, General Membership Meetings, Finance Meetings, and Community Advisor Meetings.
- Development and Communication
Finance
- Supports the Fund Development Council’s efforts at a leadership level; attends donor and partner meetings at the President’s request.
- Represents the JLA at the AJLI POLL staff conference.
- Partners with the Finance Manager, Treasurer (Volunteer Position) and Treasurer-Elect (Volunteer Position) to ensure budgeting is appropriately documented and followed as necessary for the audit process. Manage and monitor JLA administrative budget in coordination with the Administrative VP.
- Reviews and directs payroll transactions.
- Maintains vendor relationships and assists in annual review for cost efficiencies (RFP process). Works collaboratively with independent auditors to complete the annual audit of JLA finances.
Operations and Management
- Supervises the daily operations of the League's Headquarters. Offers training opportunities and instills problem-solving skills for JLA volunteers who need staff assistance.
- Follows proper procedure for all purchases, inventory and mailings
- Works in coordination with JLA staff to train volunteers on all resources available to them at Headquarters. Leads on the safety and proper maintenance of real estate, furniture and equipment.
- Maintains a centralized filing system for JLA contracts, waivers, and other legal documents to ensure they are up-to-date and accurate.
- Networks with Directors of Junior Leagues in other cities to remain current in best practices and to benchmark staff structure/effectiveness. Bring new ideas to the attention of the President.
- Studies and implements systems that enable JLA to operate efficiently and cost-effectively. Assists with development of administrative policies and procedures.
Other
- Manages HR practices and policies and monitors current developments in HR.
- Supervises all JLA staff, contractors and service providers.
- Ensures adherence to JLA employee policies and compliance with employment law; annually reviews the personnel handbook with assistance Administrative VP, President, President-Elect and payroll administrator.
- Manages the relationship with the payroll administrator and researches other employment structures and benefits.
- Conducts mid-year and annual performance appraisals for all JLA staff. Makes recommendations to the Administrative Oversight Committee regarding salary adjustments.
- Reviews timecards and conducts payroll entry weekly.
- Coordinates staff training and cross-training.
- Hires staff as needed in coordination with the Administrative Oversight Committee.
- Chairs and leads staff meetings with the President.
- Perform other duties as necessary and assigned by the Board of Directors.

- Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or GED. Associate or bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least 5 years' of experience in non-profit organization.

Work Environment & Demands:

- In Person
- This is an Austin-based position with remote work options and flexible hours. Travel throughout Central Texas is required, including attendance at some events and meetings outside of normal business hours, particularly during the fall/winter holiday season (some evenings and weekends). All travel is subject to reimbursement by JLA.
- Proficiency in using a variety of platforms including Google WorkSpace, and Zoom, as well as the ability to adapt and commit to using other software or technology is needed.

Physical Demands
- Operation of Standard Office Equipment: Ability to operate standard office equipment, such as photocopiers, scanners, printers, and telephones. This may involve reaching, bending, and lifting lightweight materials.
- Sedentary Work: This role primarily involves sedentary work, which includes sitting for extended periods at a computer workstation or during transportation.
- Fine Motor Skills: Requires repetitive hand and wrist movements for computer operation, such as typing, mouse usage, and keyboarding.
- Visual Acuity: Sufficient visual acuity is required to read computer screens, documents, and other written materials.
- Communication: Ability to communicate effectively in person, via video conferencing, and over the phone, which may include speaking clearly and hearing spoken information, primarily in the English language, for business functions such as membership meetings and donor communications.
- Meeting Attendance: Ability to attend and participate in meetings, both virtually and potentially in-person at various locations. This may require the ability to sit or stand for moderate periods during meetings.
- Lifting and Carrying: May occasionally require lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 10 pounds, such as documents, presentation materials, and/ or small office supplies.
