Summary

As a Data Scientist, you play a pivotal role in helping nonprofits solve real-world challenges through data. You apply advanced analytical techniques to integrate and analyze complex, diverse data sources, transforming them into clear, actionable insights that guide strategy and decision-making. By collaborating closely with colleagues and clients, you ensure that even the most sophisticated findings are communicated in a way that drives understanding and action that delivers results. Responsibilities

Consulting

• Deliver high-quality consulting services to nonprofit clients, aligning technology and data with strategy.
• Contribute to project planning, including defining scope, estimates, timelines, and deliverables.
• Manage and plan assigned workload across projects, proactively identifying potential conflicts or gaps to support utilization goals.
• Expand consulting expertise through continuous learning and development to enhance JCA’s offerings and contribute to a diverse range of projects.

Data Analysis

• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand clients’ unique requirements and develop tailored solutions to effectively align technology and data with strategy.
• Integrate data from multiple sources into a unified data platform, enabling comprehensive data analysis and reporting.
• Develop and lead consulting processes that employ advanced analytical techniques, including machine learning (e.g., predictive modeling, clustering) and statistical modeling, to extract meaningful insights from large datasets and inform business strategies.
• Design and deploy surveys that include advanced question types (e.g. conjoint, Gabor Granger, Van Westendorp), proactively recommending survey questions to address demonstrated client needs.
• Design and develop compelling data visualizations that effectively communicate key insights and actionable recommendations to clients.
• Utilize Power BI, Tableau, and/or Sisense to design and build reports that track business performance and inform strategic decisions.

Product Support

• Collaborate with the product team and consultants to be the client subject matter expert on analytics and machine learning model results in JCA’s flagship product, Vivian.
• Contribute to technical documentation for the machine learning models to ensure understanding of the feature engineering, the modeling dataset, model training and evaluation, and model results.
• Review new client models for accuracy, identify model underperformance and make recommendations for improved features and tuning for model improvement.

Thought Leadership

• Collaborate with colleagues to share knowledge and contribute to the development of internal resources, thought leadership, and new offerings.
• Analyze industry data and insights to support thought leadership content and identify key trends and opportunities.

Skills

You are successful as a Data Scientist because you:

• have strong programming skills (e.g. Python, R, SQL) and experience with big data technologies (e.g. Hadoop, Spark) to effectively manipulate, analyze, and process large datasets;
• have experience building machine learning models;
• proactively identify optimal data strategies to address client challenges and synthesize data sources into actionable insights;
• have knowledge of current trends and best practices in data solutions, including emerging technologies and methodologies;
• demonstrate the ability to adapt to changing priorities and learn new technologies quickly and effectively;
• communicate complex information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, to all stakeholders;
• excel in collaborative team environments, contributing positively to group dynamics and shared goals;
• demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills, effectively prioritizing tasks, managing projects simultaneously, and consistently meeting deadlines; and
• take initiative, work independently with minimal guidance, and stay motivated to move projects forward without waiting to be directed.

Qualifications

You are qualified for the position because you:

• have demonstrated subject matter expertise, with a minimum of three years’ experience in advanced data analytics and machine learning, including clustering and conjoint analysis.

You have an advantage in the position if you:

• have experience working with Blackbaud CRM or The Raiser’s Edge, Kindsight ascend, Salesforce NPC or NPSP, or Tessitura data structures; and/or
• have experience in healthcare, higher education, museums and attractions, or performing arts sectors.

Requirements

You may be required to:

• work remotely from a home office or other remote space;
• work at least 40 hours per week, as this is a full-time position;
• maintain standard North American business hours with some flexibility;
• travel up to three times per year; and
• remain in a stationary position for the majority of an eight-hour workday.
