Trister, Ross, Schadler & Gold, PLLC has been dedicated to advising and advocating for the progressive nonprofit community since its founding 35 years ago.

The Firm’s main area of practice is the provision of legal services to nonprofit organizations throughout the country, particularly those that are engaged in advocacy and political activities. The Firm’s clients include nationally and internationally recognized public charities and private foundations; advocacy and social welfare groups; national, state and local labor organizations and labor federations; federal and nonfederal PACs and other political organizations; trade associations; and service providers to all of the above.

We assist clients with the full range of federal and state legal issues that nonprofits typically and often uniquely face. These include sophisticated advising on tax-exempt organization tax law; ensuring compliance with lobbying, ballot measure, and ethics laws; navigating campaign finance and election laws to maximize voter mobilization and electoral success; forming, securing governmental recognition for and operating tax-exempt and taxable corporate structures that best achieve their goals; protecting copyrights and trademarks; negotiating vendor and other agreements; establishing and maintaining legally sound employment practices; and advising on internal governance, fundraising, grant-making, coalitional work, government investigations, prospective legislation and regulations (including testifying before administrative bodies), and myriad other legal matters.
