    Organization Overview

    Make the Road Pennsylvania (MRPA), builds power for justice in Latine and immigrant communities and working-class communities of color. We believe in a transformational theory of change that seeks to empower community members to be the principal agents and leaders in challenging and dismantling systemic oppression through community organizing, policy innovation, transformative education, and dismantling systemic oppression through civic engagement and advocacy. Make the Road PA is a project of Make the Road States.

    Make the Road Action (MRA), a 501(c)(4) organization is committed to building power for justice in immigrant and low-income working-class communities of color. MRA operates in five states - New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Nevada, and Pennsylvania. We work to create social change, connect voters to the candidates and issues that are most important to them, and work hands-on in a fast-paced environment to create long-term impact in the communities that need it most.

    Position Summary

    The Lead Organizer is a leadership position that will help plan, coordinate, and support MRPA’s local, state, and federal campaigns and membership events. The Lead Organizer is responsible for supervising MRPA organizers to ensure that they are meeting their goals and providing support and training for organizers to win campaigns in their communities locally, statewide and nationally. The Lead Organizer will work through our committee model, which is the engine that drives our work and the space where campaigns, action planning, political education, and orientation all take place. Committee meetings are facilitated by members in coordination with organizers. Lead Organizers will acquire stories from community members and prep spokespeople, engage allies across their region to advance local, state, and federal efforts that will benefit the communities they work in.

    Responsibilities

    • Coordinate, engage and implement campaigns through planning, action research, coordinating campaign events, press work and alliance work
    • Supervise team community organizers
      • Weekly check-ins with organizers to provide support, feedback, coaching, and move work forward
      • Support organizers to win campaigns
      • Hold organizers accountable
    • Create open and inclusive dialogue with organizers
    • Lead mobilizations and events
    • Train and support any new staff
    • Represent the organization at some external meetings, coalition tables, state tables, and conferences
    • Engage multiple stakeholders including membership, elected officials, and organizational leaders in the social justice field
    • Build coalition tables and/or campaigns that deal with issues directly impacting MRPA members
    • Develop activities to raise financial resources through membership dues
    • Develop and implement leadership development curriculum
    • Coordinate, facilitate and regularly engage the Leadership Council
    • Attend regular meetings with staff
    • Staff meetings, membership assemblies, staff retreats, committee meetings, etc.
    • Proactive participation, taking initiative, and being fully present

    Experience and Qualifications

    • Eligible to work in the US
    • Demonstrated commitment to social justice, community organizing, leadership development and the elevation of directly impacted and marginalized people to create change
    • 3+ years of experience organizing at a grassroots basebuilding organization
    • 1+ year of experience supervising a paid staff member
    • Experience with and knowledge of CRMs like EveryAction, peer-to-peer texting platforms like Hustle and autodialers like ThruTalk
    • Bilingual: Fluent English-Spanish (written and spoken)
    • Valid driver's license and a car that can be used for work
    • Personal connection to immigration justice and rights highly preferred
    • Experience in immigration justice and rights organizing preferred
