    We are currently in search of an Director of Philanthropy, Legacy and Major Gifts for a STEM Museum. The position is based in Mountain View, CA. This is a permanent, full-time position.

    SALARY: $120,000-$140,000/year

    POSITION TITLE: Associate Director of Philanthropy, Legacy and Major Gifts

    Is This Your Dream Job? Reporting to the Senior Director of Philanthropy, the Associate Director of Philanthropy, Legacy and Major Gifts is responsible for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major, annual, and planned gifts to support the organization. The primary responsibilities are to develop and implement programs and strategies to secure and document planned gifts, and to lead efforts to achieve major gift goals for the annual membership campaign.

    How You Will Spend Your Day:

    • Become knowledgeable and conversant in all aspects of the organization's mission, exhibitions, initiatives, programs, and long-range plans.
    • Craft and execute solicitation strategies for individual donors – write briefings and proposals, prepare correspondence, set meetings, make “the ask” (or prepare an appropriate solicitor), follow up all solicitations, and steward the donation and the ongoing relationship.
    • Cultivate and maintain a personal fundraising portfolio of approximately 150 donor prospects with the capacity to give $100,000 or more.
    • Work with colleagues to create and implement a long-term stewardship plan involving written communications to donors, including specific reporting on outcomes achieved as a result of individual philanthropic support.
    • Building on past peer screenings, develop a process for identifying and tracking our current trustee network as it relates to planned giving prospects.
    • Assure data related to planned gifts is accurate and updated monthly.
    • Provide leadership for the Planned Giving Task Force.
    • Assure accuracy of the prospect rating system.
    • Ensure the integrity of donor relationships and philanthropic agreements.
    • Assist with the implementation of strategic recognition and cultivation events Museum-wide.
    • Serve as the development liaison for the Entrepreneurship Initiative, designing and advancing fundraising strategies that align with and support its goals.
    • Participate in fundraising events and other opportunities to network with prospective and current donors.

    Our Ideal Candidate:

    • Demonstrated success in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting individual donors, resulting in significant increases in funding.
    • Ability to identify and work with collaborators to develop sophisticated strategies for high-capacity donor prospects, locally and globally.
    • Has a genuine interest and enthusiasm for all things techie.
    • Excellent relationship-building skills and agility to build rapport with internal and external stakeholders around innovative ideas and programs.
    • Comfortable with a start-up-like culture, where multiple priorities and agendas evolve through collaboration and can emerge opportunistically.
    • Exceptional communication skills.
    • Basic knowledge of planned giving instruments.
    • Superior organizational skills, with a strong sense of detail-orientation.
    • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree and/or CFRE preferred.
