    About Seed the Vote

    Seed the Vote is a grassroots, social justice organization mobilizing volunteers to defeat right-wing politics by supporting the electoral work of grassroots organizations in battleground states. We are dedicated to building the long-term power of working-class communities and communities of color.

    Position Overview

    Seed the Vote seeks a strategic, creative, and dynamic Communications Director to own and lead our digital organizing and communications strategy to reach thousands of potential volunteers in the fight for a just democracy. This is a senior leadership role for an experienced digital organizer and communicator with a focus on top-of-the-funnel organizing as well as list engagement. You are an architect who can direct and execute a comprehensive strategy to grow our reach; inspire people to take action with Seed the Vote; and advance the political analysis, commitment, and engagement of our base. You will translate complex electoral and organizing work into compelling stories across all platforms, manage a growing team, and serve as a key thought partner in shaping our public identity. This position reports directly to the Managing Director and will work closely with the Organizing and Fundraising teams.

    Core Responsibilities

    Strategic Leadership & Planning - 20%

    • Develop, lead, and execute Seed the Vote’s integrated communications and digital strategy to grow, engage, and inspire our volunteer base.
    • Collaborate across the organization to support fundraising, recruitment, events, and educational programming.
    • Serve as a lead thought partner to the Executive Director and senior staff on message development, narrative framing, and rapid-response strategy.
    • Guide organizational content planning, identifying key opportunities in the news and political cycle to advance our mission.
    • Steward the organization's brand voice, ensuring consistency, impact, and alignment with our social justice values across all touchpoints.
    • Ensure data-informed decisions by tracking engagement metrics and applying insights to strengthen our communications.

    Digital Organizing - 30%

    • Lead strategies to grow our reach, have an effective ladder of engagement to actively engage a growing audience & list.
    • Oversee the management, growth, and engagement analytics of all digital channels (social media, email, web, text for P2P recruitment).
    • Use data-driven insights to refine strategy, deepen supporter engagement, and expand our audience.
    • Guide the creative direction for graphics, video, and other digital content.
    • Ensure clear processes for media@ inbox management, spokesperson referrals, and file organization, including delegation and tracking.

    Team Management & Development - 20%

    • Lead and manage the communications team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and professional growth. The team will include at least 1 other full time temporary staff position, as well as a group of super volunteers.
    • Oversee the work of contractors, designers, videographers, and other external vendors, including budgeting and management.
    • Along with other comms staff, manage the volunteer communications committee, leveraging volunteers with comms and digital organizing experience to expand our capacity - ensure clear structure, effective facilitation, and role/assignment clarity.

    Content Creation & Messaging - 30%

    • Oversee the creation of powerful, strategic content for email, social media, web, press materials, and supporter toolkits.
    • Ensure all communications translate on-the-ground organizing work and complex political strategy into clear, compelling, and actionable narratives for diverse audiences.
    • Develop core messaging, talking points, and editorial guidance for campaigns, partnerships, and organizational priorities.
    • Cultivate and manage relationships with political, movement, and progressive media to shape coverage and amplify our work.

    Qualifications

    • Required:
      • 7+ years of progressive digital organizing and communications experience, with at least 3 years in a senior role managing staff and setting strategy.
      • Proven track record of developing and executing high-impact communications and digital strategies - especially email and organic social strategies - in electoral, advocacy, basebuilding, or non-profit settings.
      • Exceptional writing, editing, and message discipline.
      • Expertise with digital platforms, content management systems, and analytics.
      • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and experience working with grassroots organizations.
    • Preferred:
      • Experience with distributed organizing and volunteer-led campaigns.
      • Proficiency in visual storytelling tools (Canva, Adobe Suite) or experience managing designers.
      • Existing relationships with political and movement media.

    Physical Demands

    • Able to work on a computer, including sitting at a desk, for extended periods of time with or without reasonable accommodation.
    • Manual dexterity to operate a keyboard and other technology.
    • Able to see or read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids.
    • Able to speak clearly and in audible tones on the phone and in person and to be understood by others.
    • Able to hear and understand speech at typical levels in person and over the telephone.
    • Able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

    Logistics, Compensation & Benefits

    • Location: This is a remote position. Seed the Vote has an office in the San Francisco Bay Area, but the employee can live anywhere in the United States.
    • Schedule: This is a full-time limited term exempt position with an end date around Jan 30, 2027.
    • Compensation: The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $120,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Seed the Vote provides a competitive benefits package including health insurance (medical, dental, vision), paid time off, and paid holidays.
    • Travel: Willingness and ability to travel occasionally (approx. 4-6 times per year) for events, staff gatherings, or field work.
