Social Listening Specialist - Consultancy Opportunity

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced social listening expert to lead the development of social listening methodologies to support the power and resilience of civil society, and contribute to the implementation of ongoing social listening projects. This opportunity is for an initial 5-month consultancy, with potential opportunities for extension.

Consultancy Deliverables/Accountabilities

• Work with a multi-disciplinary team to advance the development of social listening methodologies and outputs for civil society, including through collecting input from specialists and potential users and piloting use cases.
• Support the activity of a design advisory board of civil society representatives, helping ensure social listening infrastructures reflect and respond to strategic needs and opportunities;
• Contribute to the design and implementation of new and ongoing social listening projects implementing diverse methodologies.

Consultant Profile

Our ideal candidate will bring deep technical knowledge, a track record of developing social listening frameworks and methodologies for a wide range of users, and an openness to learn and collaborate as part of a diverse international team. We are especially keen to hear from candidates who have experience creating insights designed to support decision-making and strategic action within civil society and/or social contexts.

Essential:

• Minimum of 8 years’ social listening research experience, or experience in a similar field;
• Demonstrated experience in designing, developing and delivering research projects;
• Demonstrated experience in researching influence operations and/or other types of malicious manipulation of the information environment;
• Strong cultural awareness and interpersonal sensitivity, with the ability to adapt approaches effectively across diverse contexts, regions, and audiences;
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and deliver a wide range of outputs;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Professional fluency in English.

Desirable:

• Knowledge of futures studies and anticipation methodologies;
• Experience collaborating with civil society/social justice groups;
• Experience working in high-risk and complex operating environments;
• Professional fluency in other languages.

Terms:

Remuneration: From $5,000-$6,500 (1 FTE) per month depending on experience and location.

Location: Global, Remote (GMT ±3 hours is preferred)

Term: 5 months, from 0.6-1 FTE, with potential for renewal or transition into a permanent role.
