    About Inflection Point Agency (IPA)

Founded in 2017, Inflection Point Agency (IPA) is a boutique, global agency that helps our client-partners accelerate the green and blue economy.

Our work spans clean energy and smart grids, industrial innovation, climate tech commercialization, green buildings, ocean conservation, EVs and charging infrastructure, and other environment and sustainability sectors.

Clients include nonprofits and NGOs, startups, major tech and automotive companies, renewable energy developers, utilities, investors and philanthropies, and government agencies around the world.

We’re a certified member of 1% for the Planet and a signatory of Clean Creatives.

    About the role

The director of editorial and media relations is a unique, newly created role that will oversee three increasingly interrelated aspects of IPA’s work with our client-partners: owned media, earned media, and paid media.

As the lines blur between these traditionally distinct disciplines, you’ll move fluidly across topics, clients, content types, and the IPA team.

This is a key leadership role at IPA in which you’ll need to both see the big picture and set specific content strategy across the three swim lanes; manage IPA’s editorial, media relations, and social media team members; interface directly and closely with clients; and roll up your sleeves and dig directly into messaging, ghost writing, editing, pitching, and more.

You should have a knack for developing differentiated messaging that resonates, a talent for telling compelling stories, a nose for attention-grabbing headlines and angles, and an innate comfort with data and highly technical topics.

In this role, you’ll also collaborate closely with IPA leadership, including its CEO and its creative director.

Key responsibilities (i.e., what you’ll do)

In this multi-faceted and cross-cutting role, you will:

    • Work directly with IPA clients to develop core messaging and set content strategy
    • Oversee IPA’s editorial, media relations, and social media team members
    • Architect integrated campaigns, while owning and managing content marketing calendars across clients
    • Both directly and with/through the support of the IPA team, produce and/or assign a steady stream of owned, earned, and paid media deliverables
    • Serve as tip of the spear for data-driven narratives, extracting insights and stories from raw data and technology breakthroughs

Examples of typical content types and marcom form factors include:

    • In owned media: blog posts, white papers, newsletters, website copy, etc.
    • In earned media: press releases, thought leadership & market commentary op-ed articles; pitch media outlets and podcasts
    • In paid media: assign or write sponsored articles, oversee paid social campaigns
    • In sales enablement: development of collateral and other business development materials (e.g., one-pagers, brochures)

By the inherent creative nature of many deliverables, you’ll also collaborate closely with IPA’s creative director on wireframes, layouts, data visualizations, and/or any other necessary graphic design assets.

Skills and qualifications (i.e., what we’re looking for)

We are looking for someone who brings:

    • Equal parts insightful editorial director and seasoned PR pro, with a Rolodex of relevant media contacts and a passion for sustainability topics
    • Bachelor’s degree in marketing communications, public relations, climate communications, environmental journalism, or a related field preferred
    • 10+ years progressively responsible experience, spanning editorial calendar planning, media relations, and diverse expertise across media types
    • Passion for environment and sustainability, in particular with familiarity across sectors such as clean energy, transportation electrification, climate tech innovation, industrial decarbonization, and ocean protection (and the ability to learn others quickly)
    • Comfort with tech-heavy topics (data science, software, industrial processes)
    • Strong innate writing skills — you do ground-up human writing with an instinct for click-worthy headlines and insights that grab audiences’ mindshare in today’s busy media landscape… plus have the ability to prompt and refine AI outputs, guard against hallucinations, etc.
    • Highly-driven, self-motivated, and thrive in a remote work environment

Salary and benefits (i.e., working at IPA)

This is a full-time, remote position (35 hours per week). IPA bases a full time work week on 35 billable hours per week / 7 hours per day (logged to either IPA or a client). You’ll be part of a decentralized and all-remote IPA team, with clients globally, so virtual meetings and a combination of synchronous and asynchronous work are the norm.

    • Salary: $145,000–$155,000 depending on experience
    • Generous paid time off (including ~10 company holidays, the week between Christmas and New Year’s, and 4 weeks flexible PTO)
    • Optional QSEHRA reimbursement for health insurance and expenses
    • Work-from-home and professional development reimbursement
    • End-of-year profit-sharing bonus pool

    How to apply
