SpeakOUT Spring LGBTQ+ Speaker Training
Saturday, April 18, 9am-5pm
Suffolk University
Are you looking for a way to get more engaged with the LGBTQ+ community and to help create safer, more inclusive spaces for all? A way to fight back against the current misinformation about our community?
SpeakOUT's Spring Speaker Training on Saturday, April 18, 9am-5pm offers an opportunity to enhance your public speaking skills, learn how to craft an effective story, and spend a day in queer-positive intergenerational space sharing LGBTQ+ stories.
Since 1972, SpeakOUT has brought committed and enthusiastic LGBTQ+ folks together in empowering trainings to share their personal stories and to learn how to engage with a variety of audiences. With the queer community under attack across this country, SpeakOUT continues to tell the truths of our lives and raise awareness about LGBTQ+ lives to create safer and more inclusive spaces.
The one-day speaker training prepares volunteer speakers to conduct interactive speaking engagements in schools, colleges, workplaces, faith communities, and more in the Greater Boston area & beyond. The training will focus on valuable skills such as setting the right tone, shaping and telling a story, overcoming fear, working with a co-speaker, and answering difficult questions. Participants will work in large groups as well as small breakout sessions with experienced speakers to hone their story. Allies are welcome.
Breakfast, lunch, snacks, and a training manual are provided. Cost: $75 standard; $35 for seniors/students. Inquire about group rates and scholarships. Don’t let the cost keep you from participating.
