Breathe Deep DC was created in 2009 by the late Jerry Sorkin, a Bethesda resident, husband, father of two, and nine-year lung cancer survivor. Jerry dedicated his life to working on behalf of people diagnosed with lung cancer, serving as the Vice Chairman of LUNGevity's Board of Directors, an advocate, and most importantly, a friend to everyone he met. Each year Breathe Deep DC hosts hundreds of participants who come out to raise funds and awareness for lung cancer. The event has raised over $2 million since it began. In addition to a 5K walk around the National Mall, this year we will include a Lung Health Resource Fair featuring vendors in the cancer community along with health demonstrations, kids’ activities, music, and the Flags Over Washington display on the Mall.
