    ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICE PROGRAMS:

    The Department of Human Service Programs (DHSP) creates and coordinates services that enhance the quality of life for Cambridge residents. Driven by the needs of residents, DHSP’s extensive services and programs touch almost every sector in the city: from newborns to older adults, from school-aged children to homeless families, from non-profit organizations to local employers.

    ABOUT THE ROLE:

    The City of Cambridge Department of Human Service Programs (DHSP) seeks a Program Manager with vision and experience to oversee a network of Community School Programs and work with Community School Directors and other staff to ensure that the programs provide high quality services to meet the needs of Cambridge residents. The Program Manager reports to the Division Head for Community Schools and collaborates with other DHSP programs serving children to strengthen partnerships and ensure smooth transitions for children across programs.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Provide supervision, coaching, and leadership to Community School Directors and program staff to support high quality programming.
    • Collaborate with the Community Schools leadership team to set and monitor program goals, priorities, and overall management of sites including fiscal oversight.
    • Support the development and implementation of developmentally appropriate, project-based curricula that promote children’s social and physical well-being.
    • Partner with Site Directors to develop, implement, and manage site-based family engagement plans that honor family voice, strengthen relationships, and support shared commitment to children’s and young people’s experiences
    • Support the DHSP enrollment lottery process and oversee revenue collection from families.
    • Oversee licensing process and ensure compliance all licensing requirements.
    • Provide training, guidance, and support to staff on youth development best practices and out-of-school time (OST) principles, including leading program planning and continuous improvement efforts.
    • Lead hiring and recruitment efforts for Community School Programs, in collaboration with DHSP leadership.
    • Work with DHSP Inclusion Initiative and other resources to support the inclusion of children with special needs across all Community School programs.
    • Collaborate with Agenda for Children Out of School Time Initiative and the Cambridge STEAM Initiative to support staff professional development, program quality improvement, self-assessment and cross-program data collection.
    • Establish systems and structures that promote effective communication, collaboration, and shared learning across Community School sites, with other DHSP programs, school-day staff and other Out-of-School-Time providers.
    • Actively support the Department’s Race & Equity Initiative by partnering with DHSP divisions and leadership to advance departmental equity goals through the effective collection, analysis, and use of data.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    Education and Experience:

    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience supervising staff
    • Experience with staff development and training

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Knowledge of child and youth development principles and frameworks
    • Proven ability to provide leadership to collaborative projects
    • Commitment to anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

    PREFERRED:

    • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
    • Knowledge of the Cambridge community and local connections is preferred

    CORI REQUIREMENTS:

    This position is subject to Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) checks.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, WORKING CONDITIONS, WORK FLEXIBILITY AND ACCOMODATIONS

    • Ability to access, input and retrieve information from a computer.
    • Ability to answer phones, maintain multiple files and be able to lift a minimum of at least 10 pounds.
    • Ability to travel throughout the City of Cambridge to multiple Community School Program sites.
    • Standard office environment. Fluorescent lighting, carpeted floors and air conditioning. Moderate noise level.
    • This position may be eligible for hybrid work under the City’s Telework Policy depending on operational needs.
