ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
The Department of Human Service Programs (DHSP) creates and coordinates services that enhance the quality of life for Cambridge residents. Driven by the needs of residents, DHSP’s extensive services and programs touch almost every sector in the city: from newborns to senior citizens, from school-aged children to homeless families, from non-profit organizations to local employers.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Cambridge Community School Division is seeking an experienced program leader who is knowledgeable in youth development, experienced in supervising staff, developing curriculum, and has strong, effective communication skills. The Community School Director will be responsible for the oversight of programs, and supervision of the Program Director, Instructors, and Program participants.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage and oversee after-school program, including full-day vacation weeks and summer camp programs.
- Ensure youth programs meet high-quality standards.
- Develop and lead events for children and families.
- Recruit, hire, supervise, and evaluate after-school Instructors/Specialists and summer program staff.
- Evaluate programs and maintain all records necessary to assess program quality.
- Oversee site-based licensing process and ensure compliance with all licensing requirements.
- Collaborate with the DHSP Lottery Team to manage enrollment.
- Partner with the Agenda for Children Initiative to develop best practices and improve program quality.
- Work jointly with the Inclusion Initiative in the development, implementation, and management of inclusionary practices.
- Manage budgets and revenue for the program. Provide regular fiscal reports and maintain accurate records.
- Manage facilities used for all programs/activities including responsibility for building supervision and security.
- Develop outreach and maintain close communication and collaboration with school Principal and staff, neighborhood organizations, and service providers to ensure access to programs for children.
- Work with families and the school community to actively promote the program.
- Participate in Director’s meetings, program development meetings, and division meetings.
- Plan and lead a once-per-month staff meeting outside of program hours.
- Participate in ongoing professional development training to enhance program practices and quality.
- Actively engaging in and supporting the Department’s Race and Equity Initiative.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of three year's experience developing and implementing programs for children and families in a community-based setting.
- Experience in inclusionary programming for children with special needs is strongly desired.
- Successful experience managing budgets.
- Previous experience supervising staff.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- This position is subject to Background Records check which can include: Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check, Sexual Offender Record Information (SORI) check, Department of Children and Families (DCF) check, and fingerprinting. A copy of a recent physical and TB test is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, WORKING CONDITIONS, WORK FLEXIBILITY AND ACCOMODATIONS
- The duties of the job involve a good deal of sitting, standing, walking, and oftentimes engaging with children on the floor. Ability to travel between sites on a regular basis. Employee must occasionally transport materials weighing up to 50 pounds from one site to another.
- Time will be divided primarily between two sites: DHSP's main site and the Community School Program site. DHSP's main site is a general office environment with air conditioning and fluorescent lighting. Programming is on multiple levels in school building.
