P. S. 9 Teunis G. Bergen Elementary School

The Teunis G. Bergen Public School 9 is a community elementary school that provides a supportive, creative, and academically rigorous education for all of our students.

The mission of P.S. 9 is to teach our students how to maximize their potential through a constructive model of instruction. We believe in servicing the whole child through strong partnerships and we aim to create a community of lifelong learners. We strive to involve our parents, community-based organizations, and the community at large in the education of our children. At PS9, we integrate social studies into our school curriculum and we foster a close bond between the school and the entire community. As they are exposed to the urban world around them, PS9 students are encouraged to seek, read, question, create, and draw conclusions. Our school has partnerships with Renzulli Learning Program (UConn), Teachers College Reading & Writing Project (Columbia Uni.), and AUSSIE Mathematics. We believe that every child is gifted. Our job is to tap their talents, through a school-wide enrichment model that emphasizes student choice, inquiry, hands-on activities, and project-based learning.
