Stagville was once one of the largest plantations in North Carolina. Owned and operated by the Bennehan and Cameron families, the plantation included over 30,000 acres by 1860. Over 900 people were enslaved on that property. The site contains original structures, including four original slave quarters at Horton Grove. Historic Stagville is free and open to the public. The site offers education, tours, and school programs to teach about the history of slavery in North Carolina.
