Sobre Nós

DEP supplies more than one billion gallons of water each day to more than nine million residents of New York City and several upstate counties from a watershed that extends more than 125 miles from the city and comprises 19 reservoirs and three controlled lakes. Approximately 7,000 miles of water mains, tunnels and aqueducts bring water to homes and businesses throughout the five boroughs and 7,400 miles of sewer lines take wastewater to 14 in-city treatment plants. Harnessing green infrastructure, alternative energy sources, and other sustainability initiatives are increasingly important strategies to fulfill our mission of becoming the safest, most effective, cost-efficient, and transparent water utility in the nation. DEP also enforces the New York City Air and Noise codes, manages hazardous material handling and remediation, and teaches environmental stewardship through an extensive education program.
