South Platte Park

To contribute to the full and meaningful lives of our community by providing an opportunity for understanding, appreciation, and enjoyment of the natural environment.

The Carson Nature Center provides interpretive programs, nature displays, and guided walks throughout South Platte Park. The Park is a 650-acre open space park along 2.5 miles of the South Platte River--the only unchannelized section of the river in the Denver-metro area. The park has extensive wetland and wildlife habitat, over 200 species of songbirds and waterfowl, 4 miles of hiking trails, a concrete walking/biking path, and 5 fishable lakes. The nature center and the park are both operated by South Suburban Park and Recreation District.
