Reports to: Executive Director
Location: On-site | Sonora, CA
Compensation: 85-95K
The Opportunity
The Director of Finance & Organizational Operations serves as the organization's senior financial leader and strategic advisor to the Executive Director and Board of Directors. The role is primarily responsible for safeguarding ICES' financial health through exceptional fiscal leadership, long-range planning, financial reporting, grant and contract management, compliance, and enterprise risk management. In addition to leading the organization's finance function, the Director provides oversight of key administrative and operational systems that support organizational effectiveness and mission delivery.
Strategic Financial Leadership
- Lead the organization's overall financial strategy, ensuring long-term fiscal sustainability and alignment with strategic priorities.
- Develop multi-year financial forecasts and scenario planning models.
- Serve as principal advisor to the Executive Director and Board Finance Committee.
- Translate financial information into actionable insights for non-financial leaders.
Financial Management & Reporting
- Direct accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash management, and month-end/year-end close.
- Produce timely monthly financial statements, dashboards, and executive reports.
- Maintain GAAP-compliant accounting practices and strong internal controls.
- Lead annual audit preparation and coordinate relationships with external auditors.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Lead development of the organization's annual operating and grant budgets.
- Monitor organizational performance against budget.
- Develop rolling forecasts and financial models.
- Partner with department leaders to strengthen financial literacy and accountability.
Grant & Contract Financial Administration
- Oversee financial management of government contracts and foundation grants.
- Ensure allowable cost allocation, reimbursement compliance, reporting accuracy, and audit readiness.
- Develop financial reporting systems supporting multiple restricted funding streams.
Compliance, Risk & Stewardship
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, local, and funder financial regulations.
- Strengthen internal controls and enterprise risk management.
- Continuously improve fiscal governance and financial policies.
Organizational Operations
- Provide executive oversight of administrative operations supporting organizational effectiveness.
- Partner with operational leaders to improve organizational systems and workflows.
- Oversee facilities administration, vendor relationships, and operational risk.
- Ensure administrative infrastructure effectively supports program delivery.
Leadership & Organizational Partnership
- Lead and mentor finance and administrative staff.
- Foster accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.
- Strengthen financial stewardship across the organization.
- Support organizational planning and change initiatives.
