    Communications Specialist - National Disability Rights Network

    If you are passionate about using digital platforms to elevate voices, influence policy, and drive social change, this is an opportunity to make your creativity count. You will help craft messages, visuals, and videos that amplify the work of the Protection and Advocacy (P&A) and Client Assistance Programs (CAP)—the largest provider of legal services for people with disabilities in the United States.

    Who We Are

    NDRN is the nonprofit membership organization representing the federally mandated P&A and CAP agencies in every state and territory, and one affiliated with the American Indian Consortium. Together, this nationwide network works to ensure that people with disabilities have equal opportunity, self-determination, and access to justice.

    We provide training, technical assistance, and legal and legislative advocacy to strengthen the capacity of our members and to advance disability rights across the country.

    What You’ll Do

    You’ll be part of a creative, mission-driven communications team, working collaboratively to build visibility for NDRN and its member agencies.

    Digital Content (Social Media & Website)

    • Develop and manage content calendars across all digital platforms.
    • Create engaging, accessible content for social media and the NDRN website that celebrates disability leadership and impact.
    • Design graphics, edit web content, and contribute to newsletters and activism campaigns.
    • Support member agencies with digital strategy, storytelling, and accessibility best practices.

    Video & Audio Production

    • Collaborate with staff and member agencies to tell authentic stories from the disability community.
    • Write, shoot, and edit videos and podcasts that inform, inspire, and advocate for change.
    • Ensure all digital media meets accessibility standards (captioning, audio description, etc.).
    • Train and support P&A/CAP members in multimedia storytelling.

    Media and Publications

    • Support NDRN’s media relations and outreach efforts to highlight disability rights issues in the press.
    • Assist with press releases, talking points, and reports.
    • Help position NDRN as a leading national voice for disability rights.
    • Develop resources and provide communications assistance to member agencies.

    Who You Are

    • You’re a creative, collaborative communicator who believes in the power of storytelling for justice.
    • You have a bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, public relations, or a related field. A bachelor’s degree in something else and relevant work experience may also be considered.
    • 3–5 years of relevant experience.
    • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to make complex issues accessible and compelling.
    • Experience with WordPress, Microsoft Office Suite, and basic HTML.
    • Proficiency with video scripting, filming, and editing, plus basic graphic design (Adobe Creative Suite or Canva preferred).
    • A demonstrated commitment to disability rights and/or civil rights.

    Location & Work Environment

    Washington, D.C. – Remote. Occasional travel and weekend work, as needed.

    Compensation & Benefits

    • Salary range: $70,000–$75,000, commensurate with experience.
