    Richmond Progressive Alliance (RPA) has the explicit goal of taking political decision-making back from corporations and putting power in the hands of people. The RPA mobilizes people in support of progressive policies and candidates, often in alliance with other local groups.

    This is a part-time, grant-funded position directed by RPA’s Steering Committee, IFT grant ad hoc, and in collaboration with United Teachers of Richmond.

    This role is an independent contractor position. Work is to be performed in Richmond, CA, utilizing hardware and software provided by the RPA.

    Duties:

    Base Building and Leadership Development

    • Develop and lead outreach strategies to engage educators, parents, and students—particularly in schools most impacted by inequities (priority schools).
    • Conduct one-on-ones, community meetings, and school-site visits to recruit and activate members.
    • Support bilingual and multilingual outreach to ensure inclusive participation.
    • Train and mentor residents, students, parent volunteers, student interns, and community leaders in organizing skills, campaign strategy, and public engagement.
    • Develop and facilitate a 12-week Organizing Education Pipeline for 10 students, parents/guardians, teachers, and leaders with training and placement opportunities.

    Campaign and Partnership Work

    • Implement Justice for All Students campaign goals aligned with the IFT grant, including:
      1. Building a durable parent–educator organizing infrastructure in Richmond.
      2. Amplifying the lived experiences and demands of Richmond families and educators.
      3. Holding school board officials accountable and leaving lasting power for both educators and the broader Richmond community.
    • Coordinate and facilitate monthly joint actions, community forums, and leadership development sessions.
    • Co-create educational campaign messaging and multilingual outreach materials, including but not limited to social media, presentations, toolkits, petitions, etc.
    • Represent RPA at coalition meetings, school board meetings, and community events.
    • Collaborate closely with UTR organizers to align calendars, share strategies, and develop systems of shared governance and accountability.

    Program Administration and Reporting

    • Track campaign activities, participation, and outcomes for grant reporting.
    • Submit progress reports, work plans, meeting notes, and reflections to the RPA Steering Committee and UTR project leads.
    • Assist in developing evaluation tools, outreach metrics, and qualitative impact stories for grant deliverables.
    • Contribute to narrative and quantitative grant reporting, including yearly evaluation summaries.
    • Maintain accurate records in assigned databases and communication platforms.

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in community organizing and developing leaders.
    • Excellent time-management, organizational, and event-planning skills.
    • Familiarity with Instagram, Facebook, CapCut, and/or Canva.
    • Familiarity with Google Suite (Google Drive, Mail, Sheets, Docs, Calendar) and Zoom.
    • Effective writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong relational skills and ability to connect, engage, and inspire community members across religion, race, gender, age, language, and class.
    • Capacity to think strategically and analytically about social, educational, cultural, and political issues impacting communities in the region.
    • Desire to learn and openness to challenges and accountability.
    • Ability to guide, direct, and support leaders to advocate for equity and inclusion
    • Ability to work independently and set boundaries to thrive in a fast-paced environment
    • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred but not required.

    Term of Agreement:

    • Status- part-time contractor
    • Location- Hybrid must be able to work in Richmond, CA
    • Rate- $30/hr 18-20 hrs a week
